Trudeaumania Redux?

Its no big surprise that Justin Trudeau- Liberal Studmuffin (as countless women have described him) and heir to the Trudeau legacy - has thrown his name in as a candidate to run somewhere in the area of Montreal in the upcoming elections. Before Liberals get all worked up and feel that “The Trudeau” has returned amongst us - realize this - Justin is not Pierre.

The one thing the Liberal Party has come to understand is we can not dwell on the past, and hope for another Pierre. Justin is his own man, and will win or lose whatever riding he contests on his OWN merits. The key for Justin is to break away from his name. He is a bright guy, but hopefully he does not fall into this “the next Trudeau” trap - otherwise he will surely fail in this endeavour.

As long as Justin does not run in Outremont (a relativity safe Liberal seat) then he will have the support of this blogger - and by not running in that riding he will show that he is willing to fight to become an MP. Justin would win Outremont, no doubt about that, but he will not have earned it. And right now, the one thing Justin needs, is some political capital, in order to ensure he is respected as an individual and not just the son of “The Trudeau”.

Justin's own merits are non existent. He is an unqualified private high school teacher, as far as I'm aware. I would also argue strongly against hereditary dynasties in politics. Look where that's gotten Florida and well the whole US now. And as far as I can tell, he's a whole lot more like his mother than his his father. However he's welcome to run just like anyone else, but not a safe seat. I think it would be really unfortunate if the Liberal Party can't come up with someone better than just a last name, but oh well.

Will he 'earn it' if he runs in Lasalle Emard? How about Westmount. I think what you mean is that JT should contest a riding held by the Bloc.

Well Said. You and I both know JT can only win (in any riding) if he "borrows" from the power of the Trudeau name. I can't confirm the comparison to his mother - but i don’t doubt his genuine commitment to the Liberal Party and the values this party SHOULD be practicing (I say this only because iv had the opportunity to talk to him briefly on the matter in recent months). Frankly that is all I really seek out of a candidate - a true “liberal“ candidate. Perhaps that sounds a bit soft - but regardless, it’s the truth.

Anonymous,

Thanks for the clarification - i hope he does run in a non-liberal riding. I mean he wont run in a solid bloc riding - that’s for sure. I hope he runs in a contested riding - where exactly? That’s the big question, we’ll stay tuned on the matter.
